Meet The Ladies
Behind The Butter

Grass-fed. Pasture-Raised.
Bullsh*t-Free.

Better farming practices means better butter. Our butter comes from girls with freedom to graze fresh, open pastures among the rolling green hills of the island of Ireland. The result? Golden, melt-in-your-mouth butter that’s perfect for baking, cooking, spreading on toast — you name it.

Pasture Rotation

Our butter starts with pasture-raised cows who spend their time outside during the warmer months (an average of 200 days a year!) During this time, farmers put the health of their cows and grass first by rotating the girls across several sections of land. After a section of nutrient-rich pasture is gobbled up, the girls move on to the next, allowing time for the land to recover and re-grow another delicious patch of fresh grass for grazing.

The Grazing Cycle

The dairy cows that produce milk for Vital Farms butter eat a 90% grass-based diet. Dairy farmers work hard to maintain their land, ensuring there is always more fresh grass for their four-legged ladies to enjoy. After the cows have foraged their way through a section of pasture, farmers prioritize fertilizing with recycled manure (collected and recycled from those same cows!). Over time, with the help of sunlight and rain water, the grass is rejuvenated and ready for another round of grazing!

*When farmers have too much grass for the ladies, it is cut and dried into silage that is used as a feed.
Then farmers can use this for the cows to eat when the weather isn’t so appealing to be outside.
